Daily Devotional

Saturday, 25 May 2013
"Jehoshaphat received this intelligence report: 'A huge force is on its way from beyond the Dead Sea to fight you. There's no time to waste-they're already at Hazazon Tamar, the oasis of En Gedi' "(2 Chronicles 20 vs 2 MSG). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.

It is interesting to observe that when the enemies of Jehoshaphat came together to fight against him and the entire nation of Judah;Someone came and informed Jehoshaphat about the plans of the enemy. Someone warned him against the impending danger. Someone announced the conspiracies of the enemy ahead of time.

It wasn't a case of waking up to an unexpected trouble. It was not a case of being taken unawares. It was not a case of walking into a trap unknowingly. The enemy planned an ambush on Jehoshaphat, but he found out ahead of time. The enemy planned evil against Jehoshaphat, but he found out early and responded appropriately.

Friend, hear God's Promise to you: As you pay diligent attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will not fall for any trap of the enemy. Before the danger happens, you will receive a divine intelligence report and you will escape. The season of your life where things happened to you without your knowledge are over;get ready as you won't be taken unawares anymore of any plan of the enemy.

2 Corinthians 2 vs 11 affirms it strongly,it says,"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices".

Walk closely with the Holy Spirit. Listen to the still small voice of the Lord from within. Be vulnerable to the Lord. Don't take the visions and dreams God gives you for granted, and you will escape every trap on your path.

Pray with me,"Lord, give me Divine Intelligence reports that will help me to escape the traps of the enemy in Jesus name".

Have a Restful Saturday

Today's Devotional

Thursday, 23 May 2013
"It came to pass that after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy one another".(2 Chronicles 20 vs 1,23). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.

Today's Focal Scripture introduces three sets of people which gathered against Jehoshaphat in battle. The Moabites,Ammonites and the inhabitants of Mount Seir all came out against Jehoshaphat and the entire kingdom of Judah. These enemies didn't come one after the other. They came all at the same time. They came at once. They came together against one nation. It was a case of multiple problems coming at once.

Notice that the same nations that gathered against Jehoshaphat eventually turned around to destroy each other. They came in multiples, and instead of fighting against Jehoshaphat, they fought against themselves. It was a case of one problem fighting against another problem. The multiple problems eventually sorted themselves out. The problems defeated each other.

One of the distressing situation to encounter is when it seems the battles of life are showing up in multiples. Sometimes, financial problems, marital challenges, career issues, health problems etc all come up at the same time.

Friend, hear God's Promise to you: The battles against you will sort themselves out. The conspiracies against you will turn against your conspirators.

God may have allowed some battles in order to deplete the camp of your enemies. Some delays only helped you escape from danger. Some disappointments were God's opportunity to give you better appointments.

Pray with me,"Lord, may my challenges sort themselves out in Jesus name".

Have a Fabulous Friday!

Morning Devotion

Thursday, 23 May 2013
"I say unto thee,Arise, and take up thy bed,and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed,and went forth before them all;insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God,saying,We never saw it on this fashion".(Mark 2 vs 11,12). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.

It is instructive to observe that when Jesus intervened in the life of the paralytic man,He didn't just say He had healed the man;He only told the man to arise, and take up his bed and go home. He didn't announce healing; He just gave the paralytic man an INSTRUCTION,and as the man obeyed,he received a miracle.

Jesus didn't seem to announce healing, but when he gave an instruction and that instruction was obeyed, the miracle of healing took place. The miracle seemed to be tied to Jesus' instruction. It was a case of obeying an instruction and ending up with a miracle.

Friend, glean another powerful lesson from the story of the paralytic man: Your obedience to God's instructions will birth miracles that will blow your mind. Your miracle is tucked away in an instruction you are yet to obey. There are new heights you will attain, and the only way for you to get there will be to pay attention to whatever instructions the Lord has given you.

Make up your mind to walk in obedience to God. Obey God in the matter of godliness. Obey Him in tithes and offerings. If there are habits he asked you to drop, drop them. If there are people He asked you to walk away from, walk away as fast as possible.

Isaiah 1 vs 19 captures it aptly,it says,"If Ye be willing and obedient,ye shall eat the good of the Land".

Pray with me,"Lord, give me grace to walk in obedience to you in Jesus name".

Have an Awesome Thursday!

Mind Transformation

"The starting point in this transformation is the self-image in its entirety. There are those who would have you go out and buy a new wardrobe, join a health club and eat bran flakes. None of this is necessary and only wimps eat bran flakes. If you project a warrior image from your mind, how you look will not matter. It is the mind that does the real work."

The word for today.
Wednesday, 22 May 2013.

Thinking for a Change

'The plans of the diligent lead to profit...' Proverbs 21:5 NIV

In his book, Thinking for a Change, Dr. John Maxwell says, 'The right thought, plus the right people, in the right environment, at the right time, for the right reason, always produces the right result.' Let's take a minute and break those words down:
(1)   The right thought. Thinking produces ideas, and ideas have incredible power and potential. But every idea begins as a 'seed thought,' so you have to nurture and protect it.
(2)   The right people. When you expose the right idea to the right people, great things happen. In their company it blossoms and becomes infused with possibility.
(3)   The right environment. In the right environment thinking is valued, ideas flow freely, fresh eyes are welcome, changes are expected, questions are encouraged, egos are checked, ideas stimulate better ideas, and thinking generates teamwork.
(4)   The right time. The Emperor Hadrian said, 'To be right too soon, is to be wrong.' While still in the 'stretching' stage of an idea, present it without expectation, time frames, or rigidly defined goals. Why? Because if you try to implement your idea too early it may not survive.
(5)   The right reason. JP Morgan said, 'a man always has two reasons for doing anything: a good idea, and the real reason.' Motives matter - and selfish motives disqualify us. God only gets behind ideas that fulfil His purposes and demonstrate His love for others. Sometimes an idea becomes great when it partners with another idea; other times it excels just as it is. One thing is certain: as you stretch your thinking, you will discover that your thinking is stretching you.

Lessons in Contentment from Warren & Charlie

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

The key lessons:
  1. “Find what turns you on.” Warren said this in response to a question about what advice he’d give to his younger self 50 years ago. He wasn’t talking about sex, but about what you do for a living. And while we’ve all heard “Do what you love”, it’s telling that this is the one thing he’d tell his younger self — it’s that important to happiness. If you do what turns you on, you will be much further along the road to contentment.
  2. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Charlie, who is impressively intelligent, said one of the big advantages that Berkshire Hathaway has had is that Warren & Charlie don’t need to worry about what everyone else is doing (in the investment world). Too many people get caught up in watching everyone else, and letting that influence them, that they lose their inner compass. Instead, figure out the guiding principles that matter the most to you, and let go of the need to check on what everyone else is doing, and the need to compare what you’re doing with everyone else.
  3. Know your strengths. These two guys are very aware of their limitations — they almost never invest in tech companies, for example, because they don’t understand it well — and instead of feeling the need to go into their weak areas, they stay with their strong areas. They know what they’re strong at, and focus on that. Letting go of the need to do everything, and being happy with focusing on less, is an important contentment lesson.
  4. Fewer and higher quality. Warren & Charlie have a “fewer is better” investment philosophy, where they aren’t nearly as active as your usual Wall Street investor … but they focus on a handful of really strong investments. Warren suggests that investors imagine they have a punchcard with 20 punch holes … once you make 20 investments in your lifestime, your punchcard is used up. If you did this, you’d really make them count. This is the guiding principle, btw, in my book The Power of Less. You don’t need more — instead, be more discerning, and happy with less.
  5. Know what you like and forget the rest. Warren Buffet, one of the world’s wealthiest men, has a nice but modest house and a surprisingly modest Cadillac (that he drives himself), and eats at his favourite (but pretty ordinary) restaurants … he can afford much more extravagance, but forgoes it because he knows the simple things he likes in life. He could have much, much more, but knows that he doesn’t need it. How many of us do that? Just enjoy the things we like, and not worry about what else we could be enjoying, or what everyone else is enjoying.
There will be some who say, “Sure, it’s easy to be content when you’re rich and successful,” but I think this is missing the point. They are successful because of these lessons.
Hebrews 13:5
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Philippians 4:12-13
I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

JOSHUA: CONQUERING FAITH

(Hebrews 11:30)
''By faith, the wall of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days''

Bible study
Hebrews 7:21-28

Proverbs of the Day
Proverbs 21

The Moses and Joshua relationship set the pattern of apostolic fathering and mentoring. Moses imparted faith into Joshua because Joshua served, followed and ministered  to him. Joshua demonstrated bold, brave and fearless faith, like his father Moses. In the account of (Joshua 5:13-6:27) we see the pattern of faith demonstration by Joshua in conquering and subduing the walls of Jericho and her people.

This faith was built by hearing God and receiving his instruction. You need a constant communicative relationship with God to manifest conquering faith because faith cometh by hearing and hearings God's voice. When you act in faith, your faith actions may look stupid to the common mind but it has conquering potentials. Someone may have asked Joshua, what has shouting and singing got to do with penetrating Jericho and subduing her?

God disarmed Jericho with the obedient faith of Joshua. Shout at the devil in Jesus name; shout at that sickness in the Name of Jesus, the walls have ears, shout out with the voice of faith. Jericho walls are conquerable not with medicine, guns, bulldozers but with shouts of faith, with simple obedience to God's instruction. God instructed Joshua to use a shout of  faith, I want you to do something crazy today. You ask, what crazy thing do you want me to do? ''SHOUT''. Shout the name of Jesus at that situation! Rebuke that situation with a shout of faith. That Jericho wall will fall. I will be expecting to hear your testimonies after today.

Power Verses

Monday, 20 May 2013
Matthew 6:34
''Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble''.

Many of us Christians are guilty of thinking about the problems of tomorrow e.g ''will I be able to pay my rent at the end of the year?'' ''I didn't make any money this month, how do I feed?'' These and many other thoughts we ponder in our minds. Sometimes its easier to be anxious, but the bible says do not be anxious for tomorrow, because if you think about it worrying has never really helped. Instead of tormenting yourself, take your eyes off the problem and put it in God's hand through prayer.
